ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION & RECOVERY OF TRADITIONAL ECOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE

Recently, I attended an event lead by Dr. Chuck Stead called The Ramapough Mountain Guardians: Ecologial Restoration and the Recovery of Traditional Ecological Knowledge. This talk and presentation was located in the Alumni Center, in Norma Walker Hall. It was done on Monday, March 25th 4 to 5 pm. Dr. Chuck Stead has been an advocate on behalf of the Ramopough Lunnape Minsi nation for a while now. He witnessed first hand the degradation and environmental injustice that is pressed daily on the people of the land. He started an investigation into the dumping of hazardous wastes by Ford Motor Company. He lead a successful fight to uncover the actions of Ford Motor Company. He found lead paint traces all over the land of the Ramapough, which was later proved to be lead paint from Ford company dumping it there. Dr. Stead worked with many elders, particularly the Turtle Clan, to recover the impacted lands, as well as working with the Ramapo Government. He is a professional storyteller and is a professor at the  Ramapo College of Mahwah, New Jersey where he currently teaches an Ecology class, as well as Society and the Sacred.

A NATURALIST- HENRY DAVID THOREAU

a picture of Henry David Thoreau https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Henry_ David_Thoreau_1862.jpeg Henry David Thoreau. WHO IS HE??? One naturalist that I really love learning more about is named Henry David Thoreau. He is known as an American writer, thinker, and naturalist.  His main focus was exploring deeper interest in nature. His words were extremely powerful, and he ended up being one of the most powerful voices for the natural environment ( Walden.org). The main thing that motivated him was nature. He believed that nature could soothe all people much like different religions. He spent 2 years at Walden Pond, and showed throughout his writing how transcendentalism can impact a human being. Transcendentalism teaches that divinity pervades all nature and humanity, and its members hold progressive views on feminism and communal living. Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry ...

ITS THE LITTLE THINGS

Being on campus, I have gained a lot of knowledge about my impact. Now that I do everything completely myself for myself (living at college = no parents, ha.) I realize how wasteful I was at home, and how much materialistic things I do not NEED. Yeah, I like to shop for things, but being on a budget (COLLEGE LIFE!!!!) made me realize the MAIN things that I can change in order to feel better about myself and do better things for the planet. To save energy, dry your clothes in your dorm!!! https://www.cleancult.com/blog/why-natural-laundry-powder/ 1.) LAUNDRY. Whether it is me being lazy or not, I do laundry less. I let it pile up, and then I do it. When I was home I did my laundry waaay too much. It is very wasteful of water. I also use a natural detergent which in my opinion smells 100% more better than tide or any other crap that is bad for your skin, and really bad to use overall. I read this really great article online about natural detergent and why it is much better to use...
